This DVD is dedicated to the highly-acclaimed works of Ludger Brümmer which he produced at ZKM’s music studios over the past years. Brümmer's compositions are to be performed over at least four loudspeakers positioned around the audience. All details of the works were generated with computers: the algorithmically defined compositions, the signal- processing algorithms, the resulting sounds and their spatialization. DVD technology allows the distribution in the original format to be played over several loudspeakers. In addition. two videos with four-channel music will be included on this DVD which Brümmer created In cooperation with the video artist Silke Braemer. Technically, this DVD is a unique document of how DVD technology can be used for music distribution on the highest level. All multi-channel compositions are available in linear PCM in 16 or 24 bit (depending on the original format when computed)/48kHz. The compositions with the videos are encoded in Dolby Digital (AC-3) as well as dts. By switching between different encodings of the same piece one may hear how technology influences the sonic properties of music. Furthermore, “Inferno der Stille” is available on the DVD-ROM partition with its originally eight channels (AIFF).Since DVD players are not built to output eight channels, one can load these files into a hard-disk-recording system and e.g. present the piece in its original eight channels in a concert.
