The dynamic and colorful music of the Epstein Brothers is an exciting journey through American-Jewish culture of the past hundred years. The repertoire of the Max brothers, Willie and Julie, reflects the many transformations that the American-Jewish community underwent in the twentieth century: the experiences of the first immigrants from the shtetlach of eastern Europe in the New World, the acculturation of the first generation born in America, the cultural and political identification with the new state of Israel, the rise of Hassidism and the modern Orthodox movement after the Shoah, and finally the so-called Yiddish Revival, the search of the second and third generation of immigrants for the roots of the eastern European ancestors.
