Spassov, Bojidar
Bojidar Spassov was born in Sofia in 1949. He studied in Moscow at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (composition with N. Sidelnikov, instrumentation with E. Denissov, musicology with J. Cholopov) from 1970–76. He then was a docent at the Institute for Music Pedagogy in Plovdiv and at the Music Academy in Sofia, and was also a member of the academic staff at the Institute for Musicology in Sofia. Spassov participated in the Darmstädter Ferienkurse (summer courses at the Darmstadt music school) for contemporary music in 1986 and 1988. He has won various composition competitions, and his work has been played at numerous international music festivals (including Dresdner Musikfestspiele 1979, Penderecki-Festival 1983, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik 1988, Multimediale 1995 in Karlsruhe, Weltmusiktage 1995 in Essen, and Wien Modern 2003). Spassov has lived in Germany as a freelance composer since 1990, and he has worked as a docent at the Folkwang University in Essen since 1992. He has also been a docent at the Music Academy of the University of Münster since 2003.
