Mark Andre, born 1964 in Paris. Studied composition with Claude Ballif and Gérard Grisey at the Conservatoire de Paris, 1987–93. Doctoral dissertation on the ars subtilior. French foreign ministry stipend,1995, for further studies in Stuttgart with André Richard at the SWR Experimentalstudio and with Helmut Lachenmann. Scholarships from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation for Music (2002) and the DAAD (2005). Member of the Berlin Akademie der Künste since 2009, professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden.
