The German composer, conductor, producer, musical arranger and teacher Stephan Winkler was born in Görlitz in 1967 and studied composition and the cello from 1985-1991 in Berlin. In 1990 he founded the first ensemble for contemporary music at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". He lived in New York, Princeton, Paris and he received a grant for the German Villa Massimo Academy in Rome, in 2008.
