Born in 1959 in Dunedin, New Zealand. Studied oboe under Heinz Hollinger and conducting under Francis Travis at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. Since 1994 assistant professor at the Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, from 2000 to 2003 guest professor at Seoul National University. Since 2006 lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Author of The Techniques of Oboe Playing and edits the series Contemporary Music for Oboe. Member of the musikFabrik since 1994.
