Svoboda, Mike
Mike Svoboda (b. in 1960 on Guam): Trombonist and composer; raised in Chicago; studied composition and conducting; from 1984 to 1995 worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen; performed with his own chamber music ensembles, in various jazz groups, and as a soloist with renowned orchestras; close collaboration with composers such as Martin Smolka, Helmut Lachenmann, and Wolfgang Rihm; premieres of more than 300 works; compositions commissioned by, among others, the Staatstheater Hannover, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, and the Staatsoper Stuttgart. 2008: Praetorius Musikpreis Niedersachsen in the category “music innovation prize.”
