Basa, Wieland
The tenor Sibrand Basa was already a professional church musician when he began to study singing in Lübeck. The recipient of many awards as well as a scholarship from the Academic Foundation of the German people, he completed his studies in 1984 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. His first permanent engagements were in Augsburg and then Freiburg. From 1992 until 2008, Bass was a member of the ensemble of the opera in Nuremberg, where he performed roles such as Basilio und Curzio in The marriage of Figaro, the title role in Merlins Insel, the witch in Hänsel und Gretel, Goro in Madame Butterfly, as well as Valzacchi in Der Rosenkavalier. In addition to his more than 100 stage roles and numerous CD recordings, Basa is active as a recital and oratorio singer and as a vocal pedagogue. He has performed throughout Europe and in South America.
