Vis, Lucas
Lucas Vis first drew attention in 1967 when he one a prize in a master class at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since then he has led the Nederlands Ballet Orkest and performed as guest conductor of the Concertgebouworchester, the Residenz-Orchester, and various Dutch radio orchestras. During his assistantship to Bruno Maderna (1967–1973) he was awarded the Koussevitzky Tanglewood Composition Prize in 1971, and he has worked with composers like John Cage, Mauricio Kagel, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Louis Andriessen, among others. From 1988 to 1996 Lucas Vis headed the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest in Haarlem. At the Nederlands Oper he conducted both the standard repertoire and numerous premieres by Dutch composers such as Otto Ketting, Theo Loevendie, and Guus Janssen. Lucas Vis has been guest conductor of many German orchestras and ensembles. Since 1998 he has been rector of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
