Reinbert de Leeuw, born 1938 in Amsterdam. Studied piano and composition with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Director of the Schönberg Ensemble since 1974; collaborations with many prominent ensembles. Artistic director, Tanglewood Festival, 1994–98. Has worked closely with the Schönberg and Asko Ensemble at the Muziekgebouw Amsterdam since 1997–98. Sikkens-Preis (1991), 3M-Muzieklaureaat (1992), honorary doctorate from Utrecht University (1994), Knight of the Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw (2008).
