Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin

The Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin (KNM Berlin) was founded by Juliane Klein, Thomas Bruns, and other students from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin in the late 1980s. The ensemble has derived important artistic inspiration from many years of collaborating with composers like Mark André, Richard Barrett, Pierluigi Billone, Beat Furrer, Georg Katzer, Helmut Lachenmann, Chris Newman, Helmut Oehring, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Dieter Schnebel and constant work with conductors such as Beat Furrer, Roland Kluttig, and Peter Rundel. Together with a variety of stage directors it has developed musical theater productions that have been seen in the United States, South America, and throughout Europe.
In 2002 the eleven members of the KNM decided to work together in small chamber music formation as well. The result was the unusual combination of wind trio and tuba, KNM Ganesha, and finally in 2004 the KNM Quartett.
The KNM Berlin is supported by the Berliner Kulturveranstaltungs-GmbH and the Senatsverwaltung für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur. Several projects have been selected for support by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
