RIAS Kammerchor
The RIAS Kammerchor was founded in 1948 and is renowned internationally as one of the finest ensembles of its kind. Since 1994 the Kammerchor belongs to the Rundfunk-Orchester und -Chöre GmbH of Berlin. The choir’s specific artistic profile evolved under principal conductors such as Günther Arndt, Uwe Gronostay, and Marcus Creed, and Daniel Reuss has been building on it since the 2003/2004 season. The repertoire is marked by emphases on both historical performance practice and works of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Composers such as Schönberg, Krenek, Henze, Boulez, Kagel, and Pärt have entrusted the RIAS Kammerchor with first performances of their works. Premières by Tan Dun, Mark Osborn, and Karsten Gundermann have also been on the program. In the field of historical performance practice the Kammerchor has worked with René Jacobs, Philippe Herreweghe, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, among others. A concert series at the Philharmonie in Berlin dedicated to the choir, concerts in Germany and abroad, and numerous prize-winning CDs all document the high artistic achievement of the RIAS Kammerchor.
